Garnet Mica Schist thin section exhibiting textbook strain fabric and alignment of platy minerals within this popular metamorphic rock. Bands of Interlocking quartz and plagioclase are separated by bands of platy muscovite and biotite mica which can often be seen wrapped around garnet crystals. This schist is from the Dalradian series, a complicated group of various metamorphic rocks which are dated to the Pre – Cambrian period and is present in both Scotland and Ireland however this material comes from the former. These thin sections prove very useful when used in conjunction with the hand specimens to identify aspects of the strain fabric which cannot be seen with the naked eye. Each section is made to 30 microns thickness and the glass is 46 x 27 mm in size with a cover slip. Supplied in a protective card sleeve with a label, ideal for microscopy and educational purposes.
