A Gabbro Big Feldspar slide, revealing significantly larger feldspar crystals compared to ordinary gabbro. This rock shares a similar composition, forming in plutonic environments but with a slower cooling rate. It actively comprises pyroxenes (typically clinopyroxene), abundant plagioclase, and minor amounts of olivine and amphibole. This section displays twinning in the plagioclase and the vibrant colors of the pyroxene, creating an appealing thin section. These Big Feldspar Gabbro samples originate from Carrock Fell, Cumbria, and actively complement hand specimens, aiding in the interpretation of the rock’s crystallization history.
