Experience the Dunite Peridotite microscope slide, showcasing the remarkable presence of olivine crystals. In XPL view, witness the vivid and captivating second-order interference colors exhibited by these thin sections. Embrace the visually striking PPL view, where the high relief, absence of cleavage, and distinctive fractures truly captivate. Dunite, the Olivine-rich member of the Peridotite group, comprises over 90% olivine, accompanied by minor quantities of Pyroxene, Chromite, Magnetite, and Pyrope. It plays a vital role in mantle rock composition, prevailing above a depth of 400 km. While Dunite is seldom encountered within continental rocks, it emerges within the basal sequences of ophiolites in subduction zones. These ophiolites materialize when mantle slabs forcefully ascend into the continental crust during island arc collisions or orogeny. Our dedicated staff collected this material from Åheim in Norway, ensuring the highest quality. Each dunite peridotite slide measures 46 x 27 mm, meticulously crafted for microscopy and educational exploration.
