Biotite Granite slide – a coarse-grained, felsic intrusive igneous rock enriched with quartz, feldspars, and micas. Biotite granite, specifically, boasts milky quartz, plagioclase feldspar, and biotite mica crystals. These thin sections vividly display the contrasting colors. In PPL view, the vibrant green, brown, or tanned hues of biotite proudly stand out against the colorless quartz and feldspar crystals. In XPL view, the biotite steals the show with its strong interference colors of 3rd and 4th order, although the intense mineral color may slightly mask this distinction. We meticulously collected the material for these thin sections from Scotland, UK. The Biotite Granite slides measures 30 microns in thickness and rests on a 46 x 27 mm glass slide.
