Specimens of Molybdenite collected from Zinnwald, Sachsen, Germany. Molybdenite is a mineral which is similar to graphite in appearance, it has a metallic lustre which can dull over time. It is silver in colour and notably soft and malleable, it forms usually where high temperature hydrothermal ore deposits are found often with pyrite, chalcopyrite, quartz, anhydrite and fluorite. Today, this mineral has is the main ore for molybdenum. These specimens are small – approximately 1″ – 1.5″ in size. They come supplied in a white card tray with information label. Each specimen features varying amounts of molybdenite on matrix.
