Amygdaloidal basalt thin section slide exhibiting amygdaloids of varying sizes within a fine grained basaltic groundmass. Amygdaloids are former gas or steam vesicles which have become later infilled by minerals, common mineral infills include quartz, calcite and zeolites. This frequently happens when mineral rich volcanic fluids or ground water deposit minerals from solution some time after the rock has solidified. This particular material was collected from the Isle of Skye, Scotland. Each section is made to 30 microns thickness and the glass is 46 x 27 mm in size with a cover slip. Supplied in a protective card sleeve with a label, ideal for microscopy and educational purposes.
