Orthoquartzite microscope thin section ideal for educational use. Orthoquartzite is a sedimentary rock and part of the sandstone family. Orthoquartzites are categorised by being composed of majority (at least 90 – 95%) quartz grains being joined together by a very strong siliceous cement. This makes it much harder than a typical sandstone, which is much more granular in texture and appearance. These specimens are Ordovician in age and are part of the Cape Supergroup, Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. The section is made to 30 microns thickness and the glass is 46 x 27 mm in size with a cover slip. Supplied in a protective card sleeve with a label, ideal for microscopy.
