Description Celastrus paniculatus, known as Intellect Tree, is a woody climbing shrub native to India. It belongs to the Celastraceae family and is primarily known for its seeds, which have been used traditionally in Ayurvedic medicine. Apart from its medicinal uses, Celastrus paniculatus is sometimes grown ornamentally for its attractive foliage and fruits. It is a deciduous, climbing shrub producing stems up to 10 metres long and 25cm in diameter. The stems twine into the surrounding vegetation, helping to support themselves using hooked prickles. Medicinal Benefits Oil from the seeds have been used as a traditional medicine in Indian Unani and Ayurvedic medicine for centuries. The seeds contain various bioactive compounds such as celastrine, paniculatin, and sesquiterpenes. These compounds are thought to contribute to their medicinal effects. Intellect Tree seed extract have sedative and antidepressant actions. They are used to sharpen the memory, as a brain tonic and as a treatment for memory loss. Given its traditional uses as a memory enhancer, this ancient tree has been adopted as a modern nootropic for enhancing cognition. It is said to improve dream recall and to help induce lucid dreams. It has been long thought of as beneficial to the intellect and memory which makes it a wonderful supplement in dream recollection. Ayurvedic doctors would prescribe Celastrus seeds to patients suffering from forgetfulness, starting with one seed daily and gradually increasing to 100 seeds per day.   Common name. Pruning: Celastrus paniculatus is a vigorous woody climber that benefits from regular pruning to control growth, maintain shape, and encourage healthy branching. Pests and Diseases: Monitor your plant for pests like aphids, scale or spider mites. Celastrus paniculatus is generally considered fairly hardy and not especially pest-prone, but it can still attract some common garden pests, particularly in warm humid conditions or when growth becomes dense. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap, Eco Oil or Neem Oil Soil: You need a high quality potting mix, not a pre-bagged product such as you find at Bunnings etc, try a landscaping place. However, as I am not local to you I still can’t say if they have good quality or not. You are looking for well composted pine bark and large particles. This ensures air flow to the roots and good drainage.
